Another 309 Bangladeshis returning from Libya today
Bangla Press Desk: A total of 309 Bangladeshi nationals who had voluntarily expressed their wish to return home from Libya have been repatriated under the supervision of the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, with full cooperation from the Government of National Unity of Libya.
The repatriated migrants are scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9:30 am on Friday on a special chartered flight, according to the embassy.
This marks the second charter flight facilitated by the Libyan government to assist stranded or distressed Bangladeshi workers.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Libya Major General Abul Hasnat Muhammad Khairul Bashar saw off the returnees at the embassy premises, accompanied by First Secretary (Labour) Md Russell Mia and other officials.
The ambassador reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to ensuring the safe and dignified repatriation of migrant workers, noting that a similar group of 309 returnees had been flown home on 9 October. He urged the migrants to play a role in raising awareness against human trafficking and warned others about the risks of irregular migration.
He also encouraged legal migration through training and skill development, describing every citizen as a valuable national asset.
Ambassador Bashar expressed gratitude to the Libyan ministries of interior and foreign affairs for their assistance, emphasising that close coordination between the two governments has made the repatriation programme successful.
The embassy confirmed that preparations are underway to repatriate another 300 registered Bangladeshi migrants from Tripoli and Misrata on 30 October through the same process.
