Army launches probe into 'unwanted incident' at Milestone College rescue
Bangla Press Desk:  A training fighter jet of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed in the Diabari area of Uttara in the capital around 1:18pm on Monday (21 July). Immediately after the crash, personnel from a nearby Bangladesh Army camp rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. The rescue and emergency medical efforts were carried out in coordination with the Fire Service and other emergency response agencies. However, despite repeated appeals, a large number of onlookers refused to vacate the crash site, severely hampering the rescue efforts. The inability to promptly move the injured increased the risk of fatalities. Both army personnel and volunteers from Milestone School repeatedly urged people to clear the area, but many remained at the scene. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that proper administrative action would be taken against any individuals found guilty during the investigation.
The statement further noted that in the afternoon, during the rescue operations, a misunderstanding and altercation occurred between some onlookers and army personnel and volunteers. This escalated into an unfortunate incident, as a result of which 14 army members involved in the rescue efforts fell ill and are currently receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The ISPR added that the Bangladesh Army has always served the people with professionalism and a strong sense of duty and remains committed to continuing its responsibilities in the same manner. The tragic incident has so far claimed the lives of 31 people, including children, and left another 165 injured. The Bangladesh Army has launched a formal investigation.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
