Army says not biased towards any particular party

Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Army does not support any particular party as it works to ensure safety for all, said a senior official at a press briefing at the Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday. During the Awami League attack on an NCP rally in Gopalganj, the Army intervened only because many NCP members faced serious risks to their lives, said Military Operations Directorate's (Staff Colonel) Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam. Nothing other than saving lives was the purpose of the mission, he asserted. The army goes tough whenever there is a risk of manslaughter or public harassment, Shafiqul Islam said, adding an ongoing probe into the Gopalganj incident will reveal if personnel used firearms.
