Awami League has lost public acceptance: Press secretary
Bangla Press Desk: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said that the Awami League no longer enjoys public acceptance and that he sees no future for the party in Bangladesh’s political landscape.
Speaking to journalists on Friday morning after visiting the Gour Gopal Seba Ashram in the New Bazar area of Magura, Shafiqul said the ruling party has lost its credibility among the people.
“The Awami League has no acceptance among the public anymore. I do not see any future for the party in the politics of Bangladesh,” he said.
The press secretary alleged that many Awami League leaders and activists who are currently abroad are spreading misinformation.
“They are making false claims, including allegations that 3,000 police officers were killed. They are also attempting to portray hundreds of thousands of young men and women who took part in the movement as militants,” he said.
According to Shafiqul, such statements are misleading the international community and creating more dangerous situations.
He further said that even after 17 months, the Awami League has not acknowledged its mistakes.
“The process of collecting nomination papers is now nearing completion. At this stage, even if they admit their mistakes, the time has already passed,” he added.
Shafiqul emphasised that self-criticism and responsible conduct are essential for survival in politics.
“There is no alternative to admitting past mistakes if the party wants to regain public trust,” he said.
