Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to UNESCO and Ambassador to France and Monaco Khandaker M. Talha held a meeting on consular services with political and social representatives of the Bangladeshi diaspora community and journalists. Various initiatives were taken to improve the quality of consular services and make the passport issuance process faster, more transparent and more effective in the meeting held at the Bangladesh Embassy, Paris on Thursday (July 16).
The ambassador said in the meeting that as part of the Bangladesh government's expatriate-friendly policy, the embassy is working tirelessly to make consular services easier and more effective. Referring to the confusion and misinformation spread through social media about the online appointment system launched on June 3 this year, he said that this new system will ensure a transparent and easy process for service recipients. At the same time, he urged the diaspora to be aware and not be confused by misinformation and play a positive role in protecting the country's image.
The diaspora participating in the meeting put forward various suggestions to further improve the quality of consular services.
In response to their suggestions, the Ambassador announced a few special initiatives.
According to the announcement, special consular services will be conducted on July 25, August 8 and 22 to ensure the speedy delivery of passports to Bangladeshi immigrants who have already received appointments from the French prefecture for legalization applications from the French government. Passport-related services will be provided throughout the day on these days without appointments.
In addition, new slots for online appointments will be released for the period from July 16 to August 31.
Half of the total slots per day will be allocated for online appointments and the remaining half will be reserved for applicants who apply via e-mail before May 15.
The expatriate Bangladeshis present at the meeting welcomed these initiatives announced by the Ambassador. They expressed hope that the new steps will reduce the suffering of expatriates in receiving various consular services, including passports, and increase confidence in the services of the embassy.
Senior officials of the embassy were present at the exchange of views, including Defense Attaché Brigadier General Mohammad Khairuzzaman Mollah (NDC, PSC), Minister (Commercial) Mizanur Rahman, Head of Embassy Walid Bin Kashem, First Secretary Sheikh Marefat Tariqul Islam, Second Secretary KFM Sharhad Shakil and other officials.
