Bangladesh Highlights Peace, Justice Agenda at IPU Gathering

Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development, democratic values and global cooperation at the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), one of the world’s oldest parliamentary organisations representing 183 countries.

Addressing the assembly, Dr A Moyeen Khan, a standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Member of Parliament from Narsingdi-2, spoke on behalf of the Parliament of Bangladesh under the theme “Nurturing Hope, Securing Peace and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations”.He said Bangladesh was founded more than five decades ago with the core objectives of democracy and economic welfare for the underprivileged.

Reflecting on the country’s political journey, he acknowledged that the path to democracy had been marked by repeated setbacks. However, he noted that the resilience of the Bangladeshi people had ensured a continued commitment to democratic principles, human rights and good governance.

Dr Khan emphasised that inclusion must be regarded not merely as a policy priority but as the foundation of lasting peace, stability and justice.

He stressed the need to empower marginalised communities to build a better future for coming generations.

Highlighting ongoing efforts, he said Bangladesh is working through its ministries and institutions to improve access to education, healthcare and employment, while removing both physical and social barriers to opportunity.

He underlined the central role of Parliament in enacting inclusive legislation, ensuring budgetary support and maintaining effective oversight.

He also called for stronger international cooperation, particularly in technology transfer, capacity building and the sharing of best practices.

Global partnerships, he said, are essential to scaling up affordable assistive technologies and strengthening social protection systems.

Dr Khan described the IPU as a unique platform for collaboration, enabling countries to exchange ideas and commit to practical actions that can improve lives of millions worldwide.

Concluding his address, he urged nations to prioritise peaceful coexistence, strengthen institutions and invest in human capital.

“Inclusion is not charity—it is justice. And justice is the foundation of peace,” he said, adding that societies should be judged by how they empower their most vulnerable citizens.

He ended with a call for peaceful coexistence so that the globe becomes a serene abode with harmony and friendship between the people of this world.
