Bangladesh, Nepal chief justices discuss legal, judicial cooperation
Bangla Press Desk: Chief Justice of Nepal Prakash Man Singh Raut held a bilateral meeting with Chief Justice of Bangladesh Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on Sunday morning.
During the meeting, both chief justices discussed the legal and judicial practices of their respective countries, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring faster and more efficient judicial services for the public.
Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, JusticeBinod Sharma, Chief Registrar Bimal Paudel, and Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari accompanied Chief Justice Raut, while all justices of the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court were present at the meeting.
Following the discussion, Chief Justices Raut and Ahmed jointly presided over the proceedings of a hearing at the Appellate Division. Dr Ahmed emphasised the strong relationship between the judiciaries of Bangladesh and Nepal, while Raut expressed appreciation for the opportunity to observe the session and praised the growing cooperation between the two nations’ legal systems.
In the afternoon, a delegation meeting on “Roadmap, Roadshow Legislative Changes, Judicial Integrity and Partnership Building” was held, led by Chief Justice Ahmed. He outlined Bangladesh’s progress in judicial reforms and recent positive changes across different courts. Chief Justice Raut led a session on “Delivering Justice while Managing Crisis,” while Justice Malla shared insights on Nepal’s structural judicial reforms.
Another session, jointly led by Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justice Farah Mahbub of Bangladesh, focused on “Digitalisation, Gender Justice, Specialisation of Courts, Judicial Independence and Integrity.” A group of women justices from Bangladesh’s High Court Division also took part in the discussion.
Justice Malla highlighted Nepal’s efforts to ensure gender equality within the judiciary and noted shared challenges between the two countries. Justice Mahbub detailed the strategic roadmap and reform initiatives undertaken in Bangladesh.
