Ema Alice: Bangladesh has ranked 19th on the list of countries whose immigrant families receive government assistance in the United States. According to information shared by U.S. President Donald Trump on social media platform Truth Social, approximately 54 percent of Bangladeshi families living in the United States receive government aid.
In a post published yesterday (January 4) on Truth Social, Trump presented statistics showing the percentage of foreign-born immigrant families in the U.S. who receive government assistance. The U.S. government provides various forms of support to immigrants, including food assistance, healthcare, and housing aid.
The data was compiled based on figures from 120 countries and regions. While nearly all South Asian countries were included, India was notably absent from the list. No explanation was provided for India’s omission.
Among the countries listed, Bhutanese immigrant families received the highest level of assistance, with 81.4 percent benefiting from government aid. They were followed by Yemeni families (75.2 percent) and Somali families (71.9 percent). Bangladesh appeared at 19th position on the list.
Among other South Asian countries, 68.1 percent of Afghan immigrant families, 40.2 percent of Pakistani families, and 34.8 percent of Nepali families were reported to be receiving government assistance, according to the data.
