Bangladesh receives 5,000 tonnes of diesel from India

Bangla Press Desk:  Bangladesh has received 5,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India through a cross-border pipeline, officials said.

The fuel was transported from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam and delivered to the Parbatipur railhead depot in Dinajpur.Assistant In-Charge of the depot, Md Jibon, confirmed the development to the media, stating that the diesel arrived late on Thursday night.

He said the consignment reached Bangladesh via the pipeline during the night and was subsequently distributed to the Padma, Meghna and Jamuna depots at around 8:00am on Friday.

The pipeline supply is aimed at ensuring a steady fuel supply for irrigation in eight agriculture-dependent northern districts, as well as maintaining uninterrupted diesel availability for transport.

Bangladesh and India signed a 15-year agreement on 22 October 2017 to facilitate diesel imports through the pipeline. Under the arrangement, a total of 180,000 metric tonnes of diesel is expected to be supplied through the pipeline by this year.
