Bangladesh will never slide back into misrule: Planning adviser
Bangla Press Desk:   Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud on Sunday firmly said Bangladesh will not be the same again as it was in the previous times. “This is our firm belief that the future Bangladesh will not be the same as in the previous times,” he said while addressing a workshop on protection of forest-dependent people from forest destruction, plantation economy, climate change and land grab at CIRDAP auditorium. Society for Environment and Human Development (SHED) organised it with executive chairman of Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) Hossain Zillur Rahman in the chair. The planning adviser said that from the democratic administration and state system he does not think that the country will return to its old era.
“In future we will demonstrate that we learned from our past experiences on how to make a democratically elected government an accountable one in the real sense, and [to this end] we will fulfil people’s expectation,” he said. Otherwise, if anyone wants to remain in power forcibly without fulfilling people’s expectations, what would be the consequences everyone saw last year. “And that will not be good for anyone,” he warned. He also said that the expectations of the people should be like that an elected government should be more sensible towards the demands of the people.
“They [ruling class] will know better the scarcity and complaints of the local people, and be more sensible towards that,” he hoped. At the event, Prof Tanzimuddin Khan, a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), gave the welcome address, whereas Philip Gain, SEHD director,  placed the keynote presentation.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
