Bangladeshi national arrested by FBI in child exploitation case
Bangla Press Desk : A Bangladeshi national accused of operating an international child sexual exploitation network has been arrested and brought to the United States to face charges, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska.
Zobaidul Amin, 28, is scheduled to make his initial court appearance in Alaska on Wednesday after being transferred from Malaysia by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on 4 March 2026.According to court documents, Amin was indicted by a federal grand jury in Alaska in July 2022 on charges related to the alleged abuse and exploitation of hundreds of minor victims in Alaska and elsewhere in the United States, as well as abroad. Investigators allege that he used social media platforms, including Instagram and Snapchat, to identify and coerce minors into producing sexually explicit images and videos.
US authorities said the FBI and the Department of Justice worked closely with Malaysian authorities in the case. Amin had been living in Malaysia and attending medical school when he was charged in 2022 by Malaysia’s Attorney General’s Chambers with 13 counts related to the possession and production of child pornography.
US Attorney General Pamela Bondi said the suspect’s transfer from Malaysia demonstrated the government’s commitment to tracking down offenders abroad. She said the United States would continue working with international partners to combat online child sexual exploitation and bring perpetrators to justice.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency remained committed to protecting children from exploitation regardless of whether the offenders were located in the United States or overseas.
US Attorney for the District of Alaska Michael J. Heyman described the case as one of the most significant alleged online child exploitation cases ever investigated in the United States, noting the large number of victims involved.
Special Agent in Charge Rebecca Day of the FBI’s Anchorage Field Office said the arrest underscored that those targeting children online cannot evade justice by hiding behind anonymity or international borders.
Amin faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to produce child pornography, conspiracy to receive and distribute child pornography, child exploitation enterprise, production and receipt of child pornography, cyberstalking, aggravated identity theft and wire fraud.
If convicted, he could face between 20 years and life in prison. His initial hearing is scheduled for 1:30 pm before US Magistrate Judge Kyle F. Reardon at the US District Court for the District of Alaska.
The investigation was led by the FBI Anchorage Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force with assistance from several law enforcement agencies in the United States and Malaysia.
Prosecutors said the case is being pursued under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the US Department of Justice in 2006 to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Officials noted that the indictment is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Source: daily Sun
