Bangladeshi-American Radwan Chowdhury
Noman Sabit: Bangladeshi-American Radwan Chowdhury has officially launched his campaign as an At-Large candidate for the Montgomery County Council in the U.S. state of Maryland. A longtime resident of Montgomery County, Chowdhury presents himself as an experienced administrator, community leader, and public servant. He also expressed hope that, if elected in the upcoming June election, he will support and contribute to service-oriented initiatives benefiting the Bangladeshi community in Maryland.
With more than 25 years of experience across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, Chowdhury’s campaign focuses on ensuring government accountability, maintaining fiscal discipline, and promoting planned and responsible growth.
In his professional career as a Chief Operating Officer (COO), he has managed multi-million-dollar budgets and led organizational transformation initiatives. Under his leadership, service response times were reduced by up to 40 percent, while stakeholder satisfaction increased by 25 percent.
Previously, he held key roles at Freddie Mac, Citigroup, and Bank of America, where he oversaw financial portfolios exceeding $5.5 billion and ensured strong compliance, risk management, and financial transparency.
Currently, he serves as Chair of the East County Citizens Advisory Board, advising on land use, infrastructure, and development policy. He is also involved with the Maryland Comptroller’s Faith Advisory Board and the Fairland–Briggs Chaney Master Plan Implementation Committee.
Chowdhury is also active in the nonprofit sector. He is the founding chair of the UDiON Foundation, which works on poverty alleviation and expanding access to education. Through his involvement in various boards and advisory bodies, he has strengthened community engagement.
In recognition of his leadership, he has received multiple honors, including the Presidential Lifetime Service Award from former U.S. President Barack Obama.
As a first-generation immigrant, Chowdhury believes that Montgomery County’s diversity is its greatest strength. He has pledged to work toward affordability, quality education, public safety, responsible development, and transparent governance.
'I am running to restore public trust in the government and deliver real results,' he said.
