BMCCI highlights trade gains, future plans during 24th AGM
Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh–Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) held its 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday at the Renaissance Dhaka in Gulshan, bringing together members, past presidents, and board officials to review the chamber’s activities and outline its future direction.
Presiding over the meeting, BMCCI President Shabbir A Khan presented an overview of the chamber’s performance in 2025, highlighting key achievements while acknowledging challenges ahead, said a press release.
He said the AGM served both as a review of the past year and as a platform to engage directly with members to align future priorities with their expectations.
During the AGM, BMCCI highlighted its role in strengthening bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The chamber reported restoring and deepening cooperation with key Malaysian institutions, including MATRADE, MIDA, and MDEC, enabling regular and effective collaboration.
One of the major developments discussed was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and MATRADE during MIHAS 2025, which is expected to open new opportunities for Bangladeshi exporters.
BMCCI also underscored its initiatives to promote the halal economy, including organising the seminar “Halal Economy 360: Driving Global Growth.”
According to the chamber, these efforts position Bangladesh to potentially secure $7–$8 billion in exports to Malaysia by 2030.
The AGM also noted BMCCI’s expansion into the semiconductor sector. Historic MoUs were signed with Malaysia’s MIMOS and the Advanced Semiconductor Academy (ASEM), marking the first government-to-business (G2B) agreements in 53 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The agreements are expected to facilitate training programmes for Bangladeshi engineers in integrated circuit design and semiconductor innovation.
Looking ahead, the BMCCI president announced that the chamber will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026 with year-long programmes, and that a commemorative logo will be unveiled soon.
Reaffirming the chamber’s commitment, he said BMCCI is recognised domestically and internationally as one of Bangladesh’s leading joint chambers and will continue to serve as a trusted platform for bilateral cooperation and economic growth.
BMCCI Secretary General Md Motaher Hoshan Khan presented the Annual Activity Report 2025, outlining the chamber’s initiatives over the year.
During the discussion session, past presidents Syed Almas Kabir and Syed Moazzam Hossain praised the current leadership and board for elevating BMCCI’s profile and strengthening bilateral ties, while expanding new areas of cooperation.
The AGM concluded with the approval of the audited accounts and the appointment of auditors for 2026.
