Bangla Press Desk: A steep pressure gradient is lying over the north Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) to issue cautionary signal No. 3 for four maritime ports.
In a special warning issued by the BMD on Tuesday, the maritime ports at Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to hoist the signal.
Along with this, fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay have been asked to come close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, bdnews24.com reports.
Meteorologist Md Shaheenul Islam said, "The cautionary signal has been issued due to the steep pressure gradient. The ongoing rain in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, may continue for at least another week."
The BMD’s regular bulletin on Tuesday morning said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds and lightning are likely to occur at many places in the Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at some places in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions in the 24 hours from 9:00 am.
Moderate to heavy, and in some areas very heavy rainfall, is also likely in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions during the period.
Day temperatures across the country may remain nearly unchanged, while night temperatures may drop slightly.
Cox’s Bazar and Khepupara recorded the highest temperatures in the 24 hour period at 34 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Sreemangal recorded the lowest temperature at 18 degrees Celsius.
Sreemangal also logged the highest rainfall at 158mm. Sylhet received 127mm, while Rangamati and Cumilla recorded 37mm and Netrokona 36mm, respectively.
