BNP candidate stages daylong sit-in on Dhaka-Chattogram highway
Bangla Press Desk: BNP-nominated candidate for Narayanganj-3, Azharul Islam Mannan, staged a daylong sit-in and demonstration on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway on Thursday (13 November) in protest against the lockdown announced by the banned Awami League.
From morning until night, Mannan and his supporters occupied various points along the highway and multiple locations in Sonargaon upazila to observe the programme.
The programme began early at Mogra Para intersection, where BNP leaders and activists gathered and took position. They later brought out a protest march that moved along the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway and ended with a rally in the Tipurdi area.
While talking about the Awami League, Mannan said, “The party has taken a stand against the people and snatched away democracy and voting rights.”
He accused the party of attempting to regain power “through fear, intimidation, and terror,” while reaffirming that the BNP will not retreat from the movement to protect people’s rights.
“We are workers of a people’s party,” he said. “We are conducting a peaceful movement against the repressive tactics of a fascist government. The BNP is on the streets to establish the rights of the people — and it will remain on the streets.”
Among those present were Sonargaon Thana BNP General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain, Senior Vice-President Kazi Nazrul Islam Titu, Municipal BNP President Haji Shahjahan Miah, Vice-President Rafiqul Islam, Joint Secretary Ataur Rahman, District Jubo Dal Senior Joint Convener Khairul Islam Sajib, Sadikur Rahman Sentu, and hundreds of local BNP and affiliated activists.
