BNP leaders, activists on way to Barishal, 20,000 join from Bhola
Bangla Press Desk: Grassroots leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) from Bhola are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in person after nearly two decades.
Thousands of BNP leaders and activists set off from Bhola for Barishal on Wednesday (4 February) by road and waterways to participate in a public rally.
The Bhola district BNP has set a target of ensuring the turnout of at least 20,000 activists from the district at the gathering.
A festive atmosphere is prevailing in Bhola centring on the rally. A day earlier, BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, former MP Hafiz Ibrahim, and Jubo Dal central general secretary Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan arrived in Barishal.
According to party sources, under the initiative of the Sadar upazila BNP, activists departed on Wednesday morning from the Bheduria launch terminal aboard seven launches and three trawlers. In addition, four special launches carrying party supporters are heading towards Barishal from Ghosherhat and Lalmohan in Char Fasson. Despite adverse transport conditions, activists from the remote island upazila of Monpura reached Barishal a day earlier.
Alongside party-arranged launches, many activists are travelling independently by trawlers and small boats to attend the rally.
Humayun Kabir Sopan, joint convener of the Bhola district BNP, said the event was more than just a public meeting, describing it as an emotional moment for grassroots supporters.
He added that after the rally, activists would return to their respective areas and re-engage in organisational and electoral activities.
Political analysts believe the large turnout from Bhola will play a significant role in turning the Barishal rally into a massive sea of supporters.Source: daily Sun
