BNP leader’s office attacked in Khulna, madrasa teacher killed
Bangla Press Desk: A madrasa teacher was killed and three others were injured in a gun and bomb attack by miscreants at the office of a BNP leader in Khulna on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Imdadul Haque, a teacher at Bashitala Nurani Hafizia Madrasa and a former teacher of Yusuf School.
The injured are Mamun Sheikh, 45, organising secretary of the BNP’s Jogipole Union unit and a union parishad (UP) member; Bellal Khan, 55; and Mizanur Rahman, 58. Mamun and Bellal were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
According to locals, BNP leader and UP member Mamun Sheikh was sitting with local activists at his office on KUET Road around 9:00pm when Imdadul and several others went there to seek assistance for a religious event (waz mahfil). Moments later, assailants on motorcycles arrived and hurled bombs and opened fire at the office, leaving several people injured.
Locals rushed the victims to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Imdadul Haque dead.
The victim’s son Anik said, “My father was killed while collecting funds for a mahfil. He was the kindest person in the area. My father dreamed that I would become a doctor.”
Khanjahan Ali Thana BNP President Kazi Mizanur Rahman said the attack targeted organising secretary Mamun Sheikh, who sustained bullet injuries and was taken to hospital.
Khanjahan Ali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Tuhinuzzaman confirmed the incident, saying, “A teacher was killed in the attack, while Mamun and Mizan were injured. An investigation is underway.” This article was originally published on the Daily Sun.
