Bangla Press Desk: State Minister for Shipping Md Razib Ahsan has announced strict measures to prevent overcrowding during Eid travel, including a complete ban on passengers boarding launches from small boats.
The state minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Thursday afternoon after inspecting passenger safety, services, and the overall situation at Sadarghat in the capital.He stated that the government has taken a tough stance to prevent excess passengers on launches, particularly the practice of transferring passengers from small boats to launches.
"No passengers will be allowed to board launches from boats. We are taking a very strict position on this decision," he said.
The minister added that law enforcement agencies will maintain strict surveillance to enforce the decision. He also urged passengers to follow the rules and remain cautious about their own safety.
He further said that there are plans to introduce structural changes to the river crossing system in the future, including developing a permanent arrangement away from the main terminal to stop uncontrolled boat and launch movement.
Responding to allegations of overcharging, the state minister said that no such complaints had been received so far.
"So far, not a single passenger has complained to us about being charged extra fare," he said.He also mentioned that the government has already reduced fares by 10% considering passenger convenience and that the revised rates are currently in effect.
The minister added that the concerned authorities are monitoring the situation on the ground daily and are directly communicating with passengers.
He also called on anyone alleging overcharging to present evidence in support of their claims.Source: daily Sun
