Bogura-6 by-election: BNP candidate Rezaul Karim Badsha wins by large margin
Bangla Press Desk: Rezaul Karim Badsha, the candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has secured a decisive victory in the by-election for the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency.
Returning Officer and District Election Officer Fazlul Karim officially announced the results around 8:40pm on Thursday, following a day of polling.
According to the final tally, Badsha received 133,931 votes.
His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel secured 57,169 votes.
Al Amin of the Bangladesh Development Party trailed significantly with 526 votes.
The returning officer reported a voter turnout of 42.37 percent.
Out of a total of 450,309 registered voters, 191,696 cast their ballots.
The by-election was necessitated after BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, who was elected from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17, opted to vacate the Bogura seat.
Polling began at 7:30am and continued without interruption until 4:30pm.
