Bus conductor held for harassing female student in Mohammadpur
Bangla Press Desk: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a bus conductor for allegedly harassing a university student on a Ramzan Paribahan bus in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
The arrestee, Nizam Uddin, 45, worked as a conductor and driver’s assistant for Ramzan Paribahan.
He was detained from the Basila area of Mohammadpur on Thursday evening, three days after a video of the incident went viral on social media , RAB said.
According to the video, a man was seen making obscene remarks about the dress of a young woman sitting on a front seat during a journey on a Dhanmondi 15–Basila-bound bus. When the woman protested, the man got up and slapped her. The student then hit back with her shoe.
RAB-4 officer Major Abrar Faisal Sadi said, “After the video surfaced, a drive was launched to identify and arrest the perpetrator. Nizam was later handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station.”
Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Kazi Rafiqul Islam said, “The victim filed a case on Friday morning on charges of sexual harassment. Nizam has been sent to jail through court.”
RAB said the incident took place on the afternoon of 27 October during an argument over bus fare, when Nizam made indecent remarks and behaved inappropriately with the student.
