Case filed against Shishir Manir over allegation of hurting religious sentiments
Bangla Press Desk: A case was filed before a Dhaka court on Sunday against Supreme Court lawyer and Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated candidate for member of parliament from the Sunamganj-2 Constituency Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir on charges of hurting religious sentiments.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam took the case into cognisance, which was filed by advocate Ridwan Hossain Robin, and directed the Detective Branch of police to investigate and submit a report.
According to the case statement, Muslims believe that Allah has no physical form and that they observe fasting to earn the satisfaction of Allah, with the reward for fasting being granted by Allah Himself.
Meanwhile, followers of the Sanatan (Hindu) faith worship their deities by giving them physical forms.
Therefore, comparing fasting (Roza) to Puja may create unrest and concern.
It is also alleged that the statement made by the accused, Shishir Manir, and broadcast on a YouTube channel, compared Roza and Puja as two sides of the same coin, directly hurting the religious beliefs and sentiments of people who follow Islam in Bangladesh.
The case further alleges that Shishir Manir intentionally made the remarks to hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims and attempted to gain political advantage through the statements.
