Chattogram College Student Killed in Suspected Elevator Shaft Incident

Bangla Press Desk:   A college student has allegedly died in Chattogram after being thrown an eight-storey elevator shaft.

He is believed to have entered the under-construction building in an attempt to escape his attackers, reportss bdnews24.com.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Mousumi Residential Area of Bakalia Access Road in Chawkbazar Thana.

The deceased has been identified as Ashfaq Kabir Sajid, 17. He was a student in 11th grade at BAF Shaheen College Chattogram.

Police say they have arrested four people, including the prime suspect, over the incident.

They have petitioned the court for permission to question them in custody.

The arrestees have been identified as Ayman, 24, Enayet Ullah, 47, Mishkatul Kayes, 19, and building guard Enamul Haque, 55.

Police say Enayet is the leader of the Enayet Ullah Youth Gang

Chawkbazar Police chief Babul Azad told bdnews24.com, “The murder took place due to a previous dispute between two groups of teenagers. However, efforts are being made to identify what the dispute was about and who else was involved in the incident.”

The police official said the deceased teenager, Sajid, was being snatched onto a battery-powered rickshaw by a group of teens and youths who beat him.

At one point, he escaped from them and ran to the eighth floor of an under-construction building nearby. His attackers ran in after him, went up, and continued the beating.

“At one point, he fell into the elevator shaft of the building under construction.”

The case filed by the victim’s father over the incident said Sajid lived alone in a building in the Chawkbazar Child Graveyard area.

On Sunday afternoon, he was standing in front of a tong shop at the corner of Boubazar Road talking with a friend.

A gang of youths then confronted Sajid, threatening him with a knife and took him away to an unknown location.

In an attempt to escape, Sajid entered the under-construction Amin and Hasan Mansion building, blocked the gate, and climbed to the eighth floor.

The attackers took up positions there and told the guard that thieves had entered the building.

When the guard opened the gate, they went in, beat Sajid and allegedly threw him down through the empty space of the elevator.

Seeing Sajid lying on the ground, locals called 999. Police rescued him and took him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where the doctor-on-duty declared him dead.

Police official Babul said arrestee Enayet is accused in several cases. He is alleged to have cooperated with and used teenagers in connection with various criminal activities.

He is alleged to have chased Sajid with a sharp weapon.

The motive for the attack is being investigated, the police official said.
