Chief justice visits Sardah Police Academy
Bangla Press Desk: Chief Justice of Bangladesh Syed Refat Ahmed visited the Sardah Police Academy on Saturday, marking the first-ever visit by a sitting chief justice to the prestigious institution.
The visit came at the invitation of Md Toufiq Mahbub Chowdhury, principal of the academy.
The occasion is being described as a moment of special significance in the country’s judicial and law enforcement history, said a press release.
The chief justice’s visit highlights the crucial role of the Bangladesh Police in the early stages of the criminal justice process, particularly in the investigation of criminal cases.
His presence at the academy is seen as a symbolic step toward fostering mutual respect and professional cooperation between the judiciary and law enforcement agencies in ensuring justice.
With a long-standing tradition of excellence, the Sardah Police Academy has been a leading institution in strengthening the capacity and professionalism of Bangladesh’s law enforcement personnel.
The chief justice’s visit is being viewed as a milestone in enhancing collaboration and institutional understanding between the judiciary and the police.
During his visit, chief justice toured various facilities, observed training programmes, and interacted with officers and trainees.
Addressing the trainees, he urged them to uphold human values, integrity, and professionalism in their service.
Emphasising the police’s vital role in the justice process, he noted that the quality of investigations and evidence collection significantly influences judicial outcomes.
He called on the trainees to maintain the highest standards of professional excellence in their duties.
As part of the visit, the chief justice signed the academy’s visitors’ book and planted a mango tree on the premises to commemorate the occasion.
The event created a festive atmosphere at the academy, with trainees, faculty members, and officials expressing heartfelt gratitude for his visit.
The academy also presented him with a token of appreciation in recognition of the historic occasion.
Chief Justice Refat Ahmed previously visited the Sardah Police Academy in September 2018 as a senior judge of the High Court Division.
His return after nearly seven years marks a renewed commitment to strengthening ties between the judiciary and the law enforcement community.
