Constitutional reform body due by Sunday

Bangla Press Desk:   The chief whip of Bangladesh's national parliament, Nurul Islam, has said that a special parliamentary committee will be formed soon to advance constitutional amendments, with representation from all political parties on a proportional basis.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Islam said progress on forming the body could be seen by Sunday.

Responding to questions, the chief whip said the government intends to include legal experts from both the ruling party and the opposition in the proposed committee. The panel is expected to comprise between 15 and 20 members.

The move comes in the context of broader constitutional reform efforts initiated under the interim government. An order titled the "July National Charter (Constitution Reform) Implementation Order" was issued to outline how 48 reform proposals related to the constitution would be implemented. To secure public approval for these reforms, a referendum was held on 12 February alongside parliamentary elections.
