Court orders seizure of 180cr assets of Nassa group chair Nazrul
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 162 kathas of land in the capital’s Purbachal Jolsiri Residential Project and other properties registered under 53 deeds belonging to Nassa Group chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Tuesday following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC petition, the estimated value of the seized properties is Tk180 crore 37 lakh 88 thousand. Besides, the court also ordered the freezing of three bank accounts containing Tk2.2 crore.
Nazrul Islam allegedly amassed Tk781 crore through abuse of power, bribery, and corruption, which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.
An order was needed to seize his immovable assets and freeze his movable assets as he was attempting to transfer or sell them, the ACC petition added.
