Court orders seizure of ex-Feni-3 MP Masud Uddin Chowdhury’s movable assets
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court ordered the seizure and freezing of movable assets belonging to former Member of Parliament for Feni-3, Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain on 3 July, 2025 ordered the attachment of movable assets of the former MP.
The ACC told the court it was investigating allegations that he was involved in fraudulent financial transactions under the pretext of sending workers to Malaysia.
Law enforcement sources said Masud, a former senior army officer, had an outstanding arrest warrant in connection with a murder case. He has also been accused of involvement in the “1/11” political changeover in 2007, as well as links to an overseas manpower export syndicate and allegations of amassing vast illicit wealth.
Masud Uddin Chowdhury previously sought nomination from the Awami League for the Feni-3 (Sonagazi-Daganbhuiyan) constituency ahead of the 11th parliamentary election, but later purchased a nomination form from the Jatiya Party and subsequently became a presidium member of the party.During his military career, he served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 9th Division in 2007 and played a significant role during the 1/11 political transition. He later became coordinator of the National Coordination Committee on Combating Serious Crimes, which oversaw anti-corruption drives at the time, and was promoted to lieutenant general.
In 2008, he was appointed Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Australia, with his tenure extended multiple times by the subsequent government. Following retirement, he became involved in various business ventures in Dhaka, including the restaurant sector.Source: daily Sun
