Court orders seizure of tax files of disaster management assistant engineer, wife
Bangla Press Desk : A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered the seizure of income tax records of Md Anwarul Islam, an assistant engineer at the Mujib Kella Project under the Department of Disaster Management, and his wife, Tahmina Akter, over allegations of corruption and amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).According to the petition, an inquiry is underway against Anwarul Islam over allegations of amassing wealth through tender manipulation, bribery, and corruption.
A preliminary investigation found that both he and his wife are taxpayers, and it is necessary to examine their income tax records and related documents for the sake of a fair inquiry, the petition said.
A review of the records will help verify the sources of the alleged assets and their actual income and expenditure, it added.
To implement the court’s order, the tax commissioners of Tax Zones Chattogram-1 and Chattogram-2, along with the concerned deputy tax commissioners of the relevant tax circles, have been directed to take necessary measures.Source: daily Sun
