Court orders seizure of tax files of ex-minister Lotus Kamal, family

Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the seizure of tax files of former finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, also known as Lotus Kamal, and his family amid ongoing corruption investigation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order after accepting separate pleas submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The others whose tax files are ordered to be seized are-- Mustafa Kamal’s wife, Kashmiri Kamal, and their daughters, Kashfi Kamal and Nafisa Kamal.

The plea against Mustafa Kamal alleges that he amassed assets beyond known income by abusing his power and conducted suspicious transactions through 32 bank accounts.

The ACC claims his wife, Kashmiri Kamal, assisted him in the crimes, accumulating illegal wealth worth Tk44 crore and making transactions of Tk29.73 crore through 20 accounts.

Their daughters, Kashfi and Nafisa Kamal, are also accused of suspicious transactions of Tk177.48 crore and Tk199.23 crore, respectively, through 56 bank accounts.
