Bangla Press Desk: The Chittagong University (CU) authority on Tuesday gave its students 48 hours to return the local weapons they looted from CU's security department as they sought to amplify their posture during clashes with nearby villagers.
Strict legal actions will be taken, unless the weapons are returned within the specified deadline, said a notification signed by Proctor Prof Tanvir Mohammad Haider Arif.
However, officials are encouraging the students to return the sharp weapons, sticks and iron rods peacefully, Assistant Proctor Prof Bazlur Rahman later told reporters, adding five machetes were recovered within just two hours of the notification issuance.
Around 130 weapons were recovered since 5 August last year from student dormitories ruled by Chhatra League activists, the assistant proctor further added. Officials are reviewing CCTV footages to identify the looters, he said.
