Cyclone ‘Murasu’ in the Bay of Bengal: When will it strike?
Bangla Press Desk: A deep depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm named 'Murasu'. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm is expected to make landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh, India, early Tuesday morning (November 3). Wind speeds could reach up to 100 km/h during the event.
On Sunday (November 1), the IMD reported that the deep depression, situated over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, had developed into a cyclonic storm. This poses a fresh threat to the Andhra Pradesh coast, a region that recently sustained damage from Cyclone 'Arnab'.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that there is a slight possibility of 'Murasu' intensifying further into a severe cyclonic storm. However, current forecasts suggest it will likely strike the Andhra Pradesh coast as a cyclonic storm.
The name 'Murasu' was proposed by India; in the Tamil language, the word means 'drum'.
Meanwhile, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra noted that most parts of India are likely to experience below-normal rainfall and higher-than-average temperatures throughout the month of November. He further mentioned that the average maximum temperature recorded in India in October 2026 reached its highest level since 1901.
