Death threats against Hannan Masud: Prime suspect arrested

Bangla Press Desk:   Police have arrested the main suspect, Israt Raihan Omi, on allegations of issuing death threats on social media against Abdul Hannan Masud, joint chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the party’s candidate for the Noakhali-6 (Hatiya) constituency.

The arrest was made at around 11:15pm on Saturday (20 December) from Nand Road in the Char Ishwar Union of Hatiya upazila by Hatiya Police Station. 

The detained individual is the son of Abdul Halim Azad, a former chairman of Char Ishwar Union.

According to police and local sources, on the night of 18 December, Shamsul Tabriz—uncle of Abdul Hannan Masud and chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party in Hatiya upazila—filed a General Diary (GD) with Hatiya Police Station.

The GD stated that death threats were issued against Abdul Hannan Masud and his associates from two Facebook accounts named “Israt Raihan …” and “Rupak …”.
