Dengue: Six more die, 983 hospitalised in 24hrs

Bangla Press Desk:   Six more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 269 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 983 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 66,423 in 2025.

Among the fatalities – four women and two men – four were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and one each in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Barishal division, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 141 were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 111 in Chattogram division, 171 in Dhaka division, 227 under DNCC, 133 under DSCC, 62 in Khulna division, 41 in Mymensingh division, 78 in Rajshahi division, 12 in Rangpur division, and seven in Sylhet division.

DGHS data shows that men account for 61.8% of infections so far this year, while women represent 38.2%.

Currently, 2,740 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Dengue killed 575 people in 2024, with 1,01,214 cases recorded. The previous year saw the country’s worst outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and 3,21,179 hospitalisations.
