Dense fog halts Daulatdia–Paturia ferry services, passengers suffer
Bangla Press Desk: Ferry services on the country’s key Daulatdia–Paturia river route were temporarily suspended due to dense fog at around 10:00pm on Sunday, causing suffering to passengers and vehicles waiting to cross the river.
BIWTC Daulatdia office Manager (Commerce) Md Salauddin said dense fog started forming over the river basin from Sunday evening and gradually thickened as night fell.
“By around 10:00pm, the intensity of the fog increased to the extent that the entire waterway was covered, making navigation marking lights completely unclear. To avoid any potential river accidents, the suspension of all ferry and vessel movements was announced at the time,” he said.
Salauddin added that ferry operations will resume once the fog density reduced and visibility improved.
Meanwhile, following the suspension of ferry services on the busy river route, different vehicles arriving to cross the river remained stranded at the terminal areas, adding to passengers’ woes.
