Dhaka shaken by a severe earthquake
BanglaPress Desk: A terrible earthquake was felt in various parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka. The earthquake was felt at 10:39 am on Friday (November 21). Its magnitude was 5.7. It was felt in both Bangladesh and India. There has been panic among people everywhere since the earthquake occurred.
Rubaiyat Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Earthquake Monitoring Center of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was Madhavadi, Narsingdi, 13 kilometers from Dhaka.
Residents of the capital said, "Suddenly I fell off the bed. All the books on my table fell, I ran downstairs. Everyone near the house came downstairs. People are very worried."
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) says the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was Narsingdi. During the earthquake, many people in different areas of Dhaka came out of their homes in panic. The earthquake lasted for a few seconds.
The earthquake was also felt in neighboring India. According to Indian media NDTV, the earthquake was felt in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, and surrounding areas.
There was no immediate information about the extent of damage or casualties.
