Dog on runway delays flight at Shah Amanat Airport
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka-bound US-Bangla Airlines flight was delayed at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport after a dog was spotted on the runway during takeoff preparations.
The presence of the animal was detected during a pre-departure inspection, preventing a potential accident. As a result, the flight’s takeoff was delayed by about 25 minutes.
According to airport sources, the US-Bangla flight BS 106 was scheduled to take off at 11:40 am on Wednesday. However, at around 11:35 am, shortly after the aircraft began its takeoff roll, the inspection team noticed a dog on the runway. The pilot also saw the animal and immediately aborted the takeoff, maneuvering the aircraft back safely.
A passenger on board said, “Just when everything was ready and the plane was about to take off, the pilot announced that a dog had come onto the runway, causing a problem for takeoff. The flight would depart after re-inspection.”
Shah Amanat International Airport spokesperson Engineer Ibrahim Khalil told the Daily Sun, “There are jungles on both sides of the runway where dogs and foxes live. Every seven to eight months, we conduct drives to catch these dogs and relocate them. But the number increases again after some time.”
He added, “Since the Department of Livestock restricts killing animals, we can only relocate them with permission. After today’s incident, another drive will be conducted soon.”
