DUCSU VP files complaint over cyberbullying

Bangla Press Desk: Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice-President Shadik Kayem has filed a complaint with the Detective Branch (DB) of police against a number of Facebook pages and personal IDs, accusing them of conducting a sustained campaign of cyberbullying, harassment and online propaganda against him.

Kayem submitted the complaint on Monday afternoon and briefed reporters at the DB office gate, where several DUCSU leaders accompanied him. He alleged that false, fabricated and defamatory content had been circulated about him for a long period, and claimed that activists linked to various political parties were involved in operating the pages.

According to the complaint, the Facebook pages include DUCSU Voice, BongoGraph, Amar DUCSU, The Nationalist Data, Kantherkella, Roumari, DU Insiders (which has changed its name multiple times), Yorkie and BotGPT.

In addition, three personal Facebook IDs – Enamul Haque Shanto, Ashikur Rahman and Saif Al Mahmud – have also been accused.

Speaking to journalists, Kayem said each of the pages named in the complaint was connected to a specific political party, claiming that some Chhatra Dal and BNP activists operate them.

“We have shared the links to each page with the DB. Cyber experts have already begun their work and have requested the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take necessary action.”

He said that those responsible for “slut shaming, cyberbullying, harassment and false propaganda” must face legal consequences, irrespective of political affiliation.

“Even yesterday (Sunday), propaganda was spread against me from a page called BongoGraph. I have included all related pages in my complaint today.”

Kayem further stated that DB officials assured him that they would identify the administrators and others involved in operating the pages soon and take appropriate action.

He also said they would submit a copy of the complaint to Shahbagh Police Station. “We hope this cyberbullying, harassment and propaganda will stop through exemplary action.
