EC to decide on Tarique's voter inclusion Sunday

Bangla Press Desk:  BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman have applied for inclusion in the voter list, Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said on Saturday.

“The applications will be placed before the Commission on Sunday. If all members of the Election Commission give their consent, they will be included in the voter list tomorrow,” he said. 

The BNP leader and his daughter completed the voter registration process on Saturday by submitting their voter registration forms.

“Although the registration has been completed, our procedures require some time to be finalised,” the senior secretary said at a press conference at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.

Asked whether a full Commission meeting would be held for the purpose, Akhtar Ahmed said the Commission’s approval can be obtained in two ways – one is through a formal meeting, and the other is through documents.

“We will place the documents for disposal. If the EC decides to hold a meeting, it will do so, and if the Commission decides that the matter can be processed through the documents, it will be done accordingly. The procedure falls within the EC’s jurisdiction.”

He added, “My responsibility is to place the documents before the Commission tomorrow (Sunday).”
