Eid travel turns tragic as couple, child die in road accident

Bangla Press Desk:   Three members of the same family, including a child, were killed after being run over by a truck while returning home for the Eid ul-Fitr holidays.

The accident occurred on Tuesday morning (17 March) in the Mirzarkot Model Mosque area of Patgram in Lalmonirhat.Another injured child was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. The victims were from Monsapur village under Alihat Union in Hakimpur Upazila of Dinajpur.

According to police and locals, the deceased Shariful Islam, 35, worked for a private NGO in Patgram. He was travelling home with his wife and children on a motorcycle in the morning when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit them in the Mirzarkot area, killing his wife on the spot.Locals rescued the injured and took them to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Shariful Islam and one of his children dead.

The injured child was later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Patgram Police Station, Nazmul Haque, said three people had died in the road accident and an investigation is underway.Source: daily Sun
