Ex-IDRA Chief Mosharraf, Spouse Face Tax File Seizure by Court Order
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the seizure of income tax records of former Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) Chairman Dr M Mosharraf Hossain, his wife Jannatul Mawa, and another accused in separate cases over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following separate applications filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Assistant Director Md Mostafizur Rahman.According to the ACC’s application, Dr Mosharraf Hossain is accused of amassing assets worth Tk1.36 crore beyond known sources of income. For the purpose of investigation, the seizure of his income tax records up to the 2022–23 assessment year is required.
In a separate application, the ACC informed the court that Jannatul Mawa is accused of acquiring and assisting in acquiring illegal assets worth Tk13.38 crore. The anti-corruption watchdog sought the seizure of her income tax records up to the 2022–23 tax year.
The court further ordered the seizure of income tax documents of Abdur Rashid Sikder, general secretary of Louhajang Upazila Awami League, in connection with allegations of accumulating illegal assets worth Tk7.02 crore.
According to the application, the case remains under investigation, and reviewing the tax records up to the 2021–22 assessment year is necessary to ensure a fair probe.
