Bangla Press Desk: Former speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury has been granted bail by a Dhaka court on Sunday, according to local media reports.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan approved her bail petition, court sources said.
According to the sources, Chowdhury was not produced before the court on the day. Her lawyers represented her during the hearing.
She was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of police around 4:30 am on Tuesday (Apr 7) from a residence in Dhanmondi in the capital.
Later, she was taken to the DB office on Minto Road and subsequently produced before a court.
Following a court order, she was sent to jail.
In connection with a case filed with Lalbagh Police Station over allegations of attempted murder and vandalism during the anti-discrimination movement, the court had earlier rejected both her remand and bail petitions and ordered her to be sent to jail. Police had shown her arrested in the case after her detention.
