Fakhrul Mourns Former National Hockey Captain Abdus Sadeque

Bangla Press Desk: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep shock at the death of Abdus Sadeque, the first captain of the Bangladesh national hockey team and a recipient of the National Sports Award.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Fakhrul described Sadeque as a shining star in the country’s sporting arena, saying his remarkable achievements as a player, his leadership of the national team, success as a coach and visionary role as a sports organiser would be remembered forever in Bangladesh’s sports history.
He said Abdus Sadeque’s contribution had played a vital role in taking Bangladesh hockey to the international stage and advancing the development of the sport.
Fakhrul, who also serves as the secretary general of the ruling BNP, said the veteran sports organiser’s tireless efforts to promote sports and strengthen sporting institutions would continue to inspire future generations.
“With his passing, the nation has lost a true guardian of sports,” he added.
The BNP secretary general prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members, relatives, admirers and members of the sporting community.
Abdus Sadeque died while undergoing treatment at a city hospital on Saturday at the age of 80.
