Fatal shooting reported in Raozan
Bangla Press Desk: Assailants shot an individual to death in the trouble-prone Raozan upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday evening.
The deceased was Mujib, 60, a resident of the Purba Guzara area under the upazila.
Sources said that miscreants opened fire on Mujib at Olimia Hat shortly after Iftar.
He was immediately taken to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rangunia circle) Md Belayet Hossain.
The political identity of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately, said the ASP.
Mujib had a dispute with some people in the area, and drives were underway to arrest the killers, he added.
The victim’s wife, Shahnaj, said her expatriate husband returned to the country about 20 years ago.
He was a follower of newly elected lawmaker Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury and had enmity with some people, she said.
However, Shahnaj could not determine the motive or the individuals behind the killing.
Since 5 August 2024, at least 18 people have been killed in incidents of political violence in Raozan.
