Finance ministry cancels proposal to buy cars for next ministers
Bangla Press Desk:   The Ministry of Finance has canceled a proposal to purchase 60 cars for incoming ministers, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed confirmed on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Procurement, Salehuddin said the proposal, submitted by the Ministry of Public Administration, was rejected. He also dismissed media reports claiming that the finance ministry itself was procuring vehicles for the next cabinet. Salehuddin added that the government has already seized 30 to 40 imported vehicles previously brought in for members of the last parliament, each valued at around Tk5 crore.
These vehicles will be used during the upcoming elections. In another development, he revealed that Japan has agreed to recruit 100,000 skilled workers from Bangladesh in the coming days. The decision was finalised during his recent visit to Tokyo. However, proficiency in the Japanese language will be mandatory for those seeking employment under this arrangement.
