Fire breaks out at cotton warehouse in Tongi
Bangla Press Desk: A massive fire broke out at a cotton warehouse in Tongi of Gazipur on Saturday morning.
Seven units of the Tongi Fire Service rushed to the scene and were working to bring the blaze under control.
The fire originated around 11:45am at a warehouse located near the Mill Gate area on Station Road in Tongi. As of 1:15pm, firefighters were still struggling to douse the flames.
Witnesses and fire officials said thick black smoke was first seen billowing from the warehouse, prompting locals to rush to the spot and attempt to extinguish the fire. As the flames quickly spread, locals alerted authorities through the national emergency helpline 999.
Upon receiving the call, seven firefighting units from the Tongi station were deployed and began efforts to contain the blaze.
Gazipur Fire Service Assistant Director Mohammad Mamun said firefighters were still working at the scene to bring the situation under control.
No casualties were reported immediately, and the cause of the fire could not be known at the time of filing this report.
