Bangla Press Desk: Members of the underworld criminal in Khulna are increasingly falling victim to targeted killings. Disputes over drug money distribution, territorial dominance, extortion, and long-standing rivalries are pushing various gangs into violent clashes. As a result, the list of dead gangsters and drug dealers keeps growing. The escalating gang conflicts have left the police struggling to maintain control.
The most recent incident occurred last Friday night in Sonadanga’s Sabujbagh area, where miscreants broke into a house and stabbed 27-year-old Monowar Hossain Togor to death. Police confirmed that Togor was an active member of the notorious Palash Sheikh group and had multiple cases against him, including assault, illegal arms possession, and disrupting public order.
Earlier, on June 28, gang member Sabbir Sheikh was shot dead in the Rajapur area of Rupsha. Sabbir was associated with top gangster Roni Chowdhury, alias 'Grenade Babu'. On May 25, another member of Grenade Babu’s group, Kala Roni, was shot and killed in the Mosabburpur village of Rupsha. Sabbir’s name surfaced as a suspect in Kala Roni’s murder. Initial investigations indicated that a drug-related feud led to Kala Roni’s death, according to Rupsha Police Station OC Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman.
Additionally, on March 15, Shahin, a leader of an extremist faction, was killed in a shooting near the Bagmara Bridge. He was facing trial in 10 cases, including the high-profile killing of Shahid alias 'Huji Shahid' in Daulatpur.
