Govt revokes gazette recognising eight ‘July martyrs'
Bangla Press Desk: The interim government has cancelled the gazette recognition of eight individuals listed as ‘July martyrs’ for providing false information. On Sunday, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a notification removing their names from the official gazette list, which was later published. The individuals whose names were removed include Md Khalilur Rahman Talukdar of Tangail (gazette no. 229), Musleh Uddin of Dhaka’s Rampura, (no. 224), Jinnah Mia of Narsingdi (no. 375), Shah Jaman of Dhaka’s Daulatkhan (no. 611), Md Roni of Savar (no. 766), Tawhidul Alam Jisan of Narayanganj (no. 818), Bashir Sardar of Patuakhali (no. 823), and Bandhan of Shariatpur (no. 836). The notification did not specify the exact reasons for the removal. However, sources at the Ministry said the families and relatives of the deceased had submitted false information to include these individuals in the list of July martyrs, apparently to receive benefits.
According to the “July Mass Uprising Martyrs' Families and Injured Students-Citizens Welfare and Rehabilitation Ordinance, 2025” and the associated Rules Of Business, the gazette recognition of these eight individuals has been revoked. Previously, the government had published the gazette of 844 July martyrs in two phases, listing their gazette numbers, medical case IDs, parents’ names, permanent and current addresses, districts, and divisions. The government provides a one-time financial aid of Tk30 lakh and a monthly allowance of Tk20,000 to the families of the July martyrs. Additionally, family members receive priority in government jobs, and rehabilitation programmes have been launched to support them. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
