Govt to purchase 25 aircraft from US company Boeing: Commerce Secretary
    Bangla Press Desk: The government has placed an order to purchase 25 aircraft from American aviation company Boeing, Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman announced on Sunday. He made the statements while speaking to journalists at his office at the Ministry of Commerce in the Secretariat. "The Boeing business isn’t handled by the US government — it's managed by the company itself," said the secretary. "We have placed an order to purchase 25 aircraft from Boeing." He added, "Just as India has ordered 100 aircraft, so have Vietnam and Indonesia. Boeing will deliver them based on their production capacity, so it will take them quite some time to supply these."
Meanwhile, the United States is set to impose additional tariffs on Bangladeshi products starting 1 August, just five days away. If a resolution is not reached within this period, a 35% surcharge will be applied to Bangladeshi goods — a move that could severely disrupt the country’s export sector, particularly the ready-made garment industry. In this context, analysts suggest that the government’s decision to purchase aircraft from Boeing may be a strategic move to ease trade tensions with the US.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
