Gunman opens fire in front of passengers at New York’s JFK Airport, sparking panic
Panic swooped on JFK Airport after an off-duty customs officer reportedly fired shots at a driver, sparking chaos among terrified tourists.
Port Authority officers are now investigating the alleged road rage incident, which happened in the early hours of Tuesday. Gunfire erupted near the airport's terminal 8 at around 4:48am, where one vehicle was struck but no one was injured, ABC7 reports. A police officer who attended the scene is said to have discharged their weapon. An off-duty customs officer was allegedly interviewed in connection with the shooting.

Images from the scene showed at least seven emergency services vehicles swarming the Van Wyck Expressway near JFK Airport on Tuesday morning. Traffic cones were placed around the area and multiple police officers were stationed at a crossroad on the highway. The incident sparked congestion on the southbound lane which was forced to close, with traffic diverted onto local roads. One lane was later re-opened at around 7am.
Passengers were also urged to use the Air Train to JFK and check the status of their flights ahead of travel. The Mirror has contacted the New York City Police Department for comment.
