Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh will export 1,200 tonnes of hilsa to India this year following repeated requests from the neighboring country, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter announced on Saturday.
Speaking to journalists after a views-exchange meeting with fishermen and journalists at Burir Bandh in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, Akhter said, “Our people will eat hilsa first, then we will think of others. Unfortunately, as a neighbouring country, we had to send them hilsa. However, this time the quantity is less than demanded, and the price has been kept higher.”
She noted that despite earlier assurances that domestic demand would take priority, limited exports were allowed due to India’s continued requests.
The event was organised by the district administration and the Department of Fisheries.
