House rent for teachers to increase as govt to announce new pay scale soon

Bangla Press Desk:  A new national pay scale will be introduced soon, said Education Secretary Rehana Parven, assuring that the move will address long-pending issues related to teachers’ salaries and housing allowances.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Education on Thursday, the secretary said the ministry has already sent a formal letter to the Ministry of Finance in response to teachers’ demands.

“We are working continuously to meet the teachers’ legitimate demands. The national pay scale will be finalised soon, and it will have a positive impact. We are seeking everyone’s cooperation — progress will take a little time, but we are moving forward,” she said.

Rehana added that the ministry is making every possible effort within the government’s financial constraints to support teachers.

“We have invited teacher representatives for discussions, and we believe solutions will emerge through dialogue. The incremental budgetary allocation we are pursuing marks a step forward,” she noted.

Meanwhile, Education Adviser CR Abrar said that an increase in housing allowance for MPO-listed teachers — by 5% or a minimum of Tk2,000 — is currently under discussion.

Speaking at a separate briefing on the upcoming HSC-2025 examination results, Abrar said, “Teachers are the lifeblood of our education system. From the beginning, I have advocated for better pay, training, and professional dignity for teachers. My colleagues in the cabinet are also sympathetic to these goals.”

He added that teacher organisations have proposed a 20% increase in housing allowance along with other benefits, but adjustments will depend on the government’s financial capacity.

“I am confident that with the recommendations of the new Pay Commission, we will move toward a more respectable salary structure next year,” the adviser concluded.
